Principles
The preceding sections, provided free of charge,
should have created a fundamental, basic, foundation of
knowledge about the spine, discs, and the origination of
discogenic pain. In addition, anyone familiar with the alternative
explanations for back pain, will have probably
realized that they have come upon a source of understanding
herein that, more than anything they have previously read,
adequately explains the origins of their pain. The PRINCIPLES
Sections (preceding the actual instructions on how to accomplish
the MANEUVERS
unique to The O'Connor Technique (tm)) describe
principles, concepts, and elements common to nearly all
of the subsequent understandings essential to the management,
treatment, and prevention of back pain.
These PRINCIPLES are important to comprehend because they
are pertinent to the understanding of the MANEUVERS one
can (and most probably will) learn to use to relieve discogenic
pain. Treating them repeatedly during a description of every
MANEUVER would be redundant; and, if their descriptions
were only incorporated into the instructions for a particular
MANEUVER, it might give the impression that they pertained
largely or singularly to that particular MANEUVER. They
are treated here as a prelude to the directions on how to
accomplish the MANEUVERS so that the reader can become familiar
enough with them, in advance, so as to be more able to focus,
later, on the specific MANEUVERS rather than having to deal
with the distraction of learning the associated devices
and theory common to nearly all MANEUVERS.
They are presented in easy to understand language
with ample illustrations to clairfy the concepts
which are undoubtedly foreign to the reader since they have
never been presented anywhere else in the history of medical
literature. Too, they were written from a perspective
of a doctor who has had to communicate the same understanding
to numerous patients so they can understand the basis for
the oftentimes fear-producing prospect of having their painful
spine's manipulated. Before anyone will let someone else
tamper with a painful condition, they have to be convinced
that the person preparing to do that knows what they are
talking about and can substantiate their claims with common
sense explanations. The author has done this for years and
does it on a daily basis with patients. The PRINCIPLES sections
were crafted with the cumulative experience acquired by
being caused to explain these principles to lay persons
competently enough to succeed in conveying that knowledge
in a timely and understandable manner.
Whenever appropriate, the author has repeatedly endeavored
to refresh the reader's memory as to these concepts during
the descriptions of the MANEUVERS. The reader should plan
on referring to the Informational Sections wherever and
whenever it becomes necessary to fully comprehend the reasons
and justification for any particular given movement instruction.
This is facilitated by the webbook's design with links throughout
the MANUEVERS section to the PRINCIPLES section so that
if an explanation is necessary, it can be obtained by a
simple mouse-click.
Since certain concepts rely upon a foundation of prior
understanding, it was necessary to assemble the principles
in a conceptual sequence to facilitate the learning process.
The principles, are, by far and away, the most important
general concepts applicable to the prevention and management
of the overwhelming majority of discogenic back
pain. So, they should predominate in the reader's
armamentarium. These principles are not assembled in this
fashion or made available anywhere else in the medical literature
to the author's knowledge. They are essential because they
provide the reader with the reasoning to justify all the
body positions and postural movements as well as explain
the anatomical structures and their relationship to the
mechanical forces employed in The O'Connor Technique
(tm)..

Section's full contents are available only by subscription

MAKING YOUR
BAD BACK BETTER WITH THE O'CONNOR TECHNIQUE (TM) HOW YOU
CAN BECOME YOUR OWN CHIROPRACTOR,
by William T. O'Connor, Jr., M.D..
The below cartoon typifies the content of material in
the PRINCIPLES Section. If you are a back pain sufferer
who has interfaced with the standard medical care model,
there is a good chance that you may have encountered information
that promotes some of the exercises depicted in the back
pain school pictoral parody below. Obtaining The O'Connor
Technique (tm) information will explain why the
exercises, below as well as many others, (extracted from
other back pain advice literature) are not beneficial and
are more appropriately portrayed as being performed by clowns.
It is this type of activity that can actually make back
pain worse. The PRINCIPLES Section
